Spreading AwarenessTHE VISION Getting the attention of others and educating them on the reality of slavery today while providing a means to take action and respond.
Learning I gained an in-depth understanding of present-day human trafficking while practicing skills in research, conducting interviews, writing, organization, planning, and interaction with others. Books, the Internet, and direction from partners proved to be valuable resources throughout the course of this project.
Serving Much time (36 hours) was spent painting a piece that is meant to express the pain and desperation felt by those in slavery. Made to accompany the painting are brochures that introduce the topic and direct the reader to more information. The point of the display is to challenge viewers to respond to modern slavery.
Reflection There were regular opportunities to reflect on modern slavery throughout the project. I wrote journals reflecting on progress while also considering what impact I could have on such a broad-reaching issue. After watching the Lifetime movie Human Trafficking, images continue to flash through my mind whenever I think of the girls who are deceived and trapped in lives of prostitution. Reflection on this topic does not stop after writing journal entries.
