10 Tips to Overcoming Writer's Block

As a content creator, at some point in time you will experience the plight all writer's dread--the lack of inspiration--more commonly known as writer's block. However, it doesn't have to be the curse so many have extolled it to be, it can be a gift, if used properly. Writer's block can also be your body's or brain's way of saying "time out." The commitment to consistent writing can be draining: researching, writing, proofing, formatting and so on and so on the cycle repeats itself. These 10 tips can help you overcome and use writer's block.

  2. Writer’s block is…. Writer’s block is…. the lack the lack of inspiration; the condition of being unable to think unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing

  3. Why??? Why??? It can be your body's or brain's way of saying to you, “we need a time out"

  4. Unplug Unplug back away from the technology and get some fresh air; let the sun and wind speak to you

  5. Exercise Exercise get the blood flowing to your brain; go for a walk, run, take a bike ride or swim a few laps

  6. Read Read glean inspiration from others; peruse blogs, comics, magazines or newspapers

  7. Eat Eat fix yourself--or go out for--a healthy meal full colorful vegetables and lean protein to feed your brain cells

  8. Ideate Ideate doodle, color, knit, paint or make jewelry to jump start your synapses

  9. Chitchat Chitchat the seemingly most insignificant conversation can lead to a creative flurry

  10. Dance Dance turn on some tunes and let your body do its thing

  11. Watch Watch look at what is happening around you; take the time to observe your surroundings

  12. Sleep Sleep give your mind and body time to rest and rejuvenate

  13. Meditate Meditate when you've done everything you can think of, try doing nothing
