  2. Bewitching batik To make a batik print sarees, selected areas of the saree are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and the cloth is then dyed. The parts of the saree covered in wax resist the dye and remain in the original colour. This process of waxing and dyeing can be repeated to create more elaborate and colourful designs. After the final dyeing the wax is removed and the Batik print saree is ready for wearing. Contemporary Batik print sarees, while owing much to the past, are markedly different from the more traditional and formal styles. For example, the artist may use newer etching, discharge dyeing and different waxing and dyeing tools. They may also use wax recipes with different resist values and work with different textiles.
