However, be careful of centres that charge very cheaply. This is a sign that they are going for the strategy of filling up as many seats as possible in order to make a profit. The basic advice is of course to find a centre that you can afford. However, be careful of centres that charge very cheaply. This is a sign that they are going for the strategy of filling up as many seats as possible in order to make a profit. In conclusion, it is a good strategy to choose a centre that has the best value for the fees it is charging.

  2. Location I know many parents choose a tuition centre based on how near it is to their home. Location is certainly important. Valuable time can be saved by going to a nearby centre. This is especially so for young children who need an adult to bring them there. However, do consider other factors as well. It is well worth the effort to go to a centre that is a bit farther away than a centre that is nearby if the centre is good. Review Process The review process is now more important. This is because schools are removing their mid-year examinations. Hence, there must be other ways to check if children are improving. One way of measuring progress is through tuition centres. Can parents view the materials, worksheets and assignments given to the children? Does the centre allow parents to talk to the teachers? Are there regular feedback sessions? The better the review process, the better the centre is.

  3. Teacher/Student Ratio Another consideration is the teacher/student ratio. There are some centres that squeeze 16 or even more children in a classroom! If this happens, then you are probably better to just rely on MOE schools. This is because the teacher/student ratio is about the same as national schools!

  4. Terms and Conditions As we all know, schedules of our children change all the time. They fall sick or their CCA might organise extra training. Is the Maths tuition centre able to provide alternate classes? Is the centre able to pro-rate courses if the request is reasonable? Always check the T&Cs to ensure you know what you are getting into. Indeed, choosing a Math tuition centre or English tuition centre is not that easy, given there are so many criteria. Do look around and we are sure you’ll find one that is suitable.
