  1. Alternative names The alternative names are baya, son-chiri & bayya chirya Scientific name The scientific name is Ploceus philippinus.

  3. Description This specie is 15cm in length. They look like  house Sparrow. They are known as a social bird. Color patterns of male & female are partially different. They are famous for their nest-building behavior. Non_breeding male & female look alike. They are polygamous.

  4. Appearance They have Stout, large conical bill. Female has yellow color bill. Male has blackish brown bill. Their Eyes are black. Male have bright yellow crown. Female has brown yellow linning on her head.

  5. Appearance Males have dark throat, Underparts  yellow while female has cream color. Male has black color around the eyes. The Female has buffy eyebrows.Browny yellow short tail. They have dark brown, little yellow streaked on its back. Large legs with yellowish pink feet.

  6. Habitat They are usually found in the form of flocks. Their residence are cultivated areas, grasslands, thorny trees, gardens, parks, berry tree,paddy  fields, secondary growth leaves,scrub and palm fronds.

  7. Distribution Range This specie occur in various countries including indian subcontinent, and soithest asia,Bengal, Bangladesh, china, Iran, Afganistan, Pakistan, Turkey and Thailand.

  8. Vocalization The bird has very beautiful voice. They call usually during non breeding season. Their call can be described as chit-chit & cheee-eee-ee.

  10. Feeding They primarily eat insects,butterflies,small frogs,geckos,mollusks, pests, rice, grain and grain seeds, grass on ground. They also damage ripening crops of fields.

  11. Flight They are often seen in flock during flight. Flight is direct on their short wings.

  12. Breeding The breeding season starts from April and ends in October. They nest in the form of groups or colonies. They build nest on thorny trees with peddy leaves or grasses. 2_4 eggs are laid. Incubation period is 14_17days
