Goals of the meeting 28/2/06 • Pedagogical and technological workshops • Take the reflection and exchange process a step further • Identifying existing applications of mobile learning that could be implemented in schools
Goals of the meeting 1/3/06 • How are we going to combine the pedagogical needs and technological platform? • Address issues • What is the pedagogical need that needs to be addressed? • What is ‘innovative state-of-the art application’ for us, the COLLAGE consortium? • Financial and administrative issues • Leave the meeting with a checklist of things to be done
Overall objective of the project COLLAGE aims at: using existing experiences in the field of mobile learning applications in Europe, so that existing best practices are integrated in an innovative, really state-of-the-art mobile learning support and information application.
More specific objectives • innovative, more flexible approach to e-learning, • a rich pattern of integrated formal, non-formal and informal learning spaces (learning at school, in museums and sites of interest, at home, in the street, during travelling, etc.), • integration of a blend of technologies (laptops, PDAs, mobile phones, the Internet) into a single learning-supporting and learning-enhancing environment. • development of a new ‘everywhere-learning’ and ‘lifelong-learning’ culture among secondary school students, • No barriers between school activities and everyday life, and that learning is related to life in general rather only to schooling.
Learning everywhere • History Education: a visit to Acropolis • students get information (drawings, historical events, etc) about the monument • the history teacher has uploaded information to the database earlier • students capture moments of their visit with the camera of the device • students upload photos for future reference.
Learning in a playful way • Students visit the • Benaki museum: • they take pictures and notes • they participate in several games, e.g. treasure hunting • they communicate with the class mates who did not attend the visit.
Means for achieving the project’s goals • The integration of existing best practices into the design and development of a pedagogical framework for the effective integration of e-learning into the school environment • The adoption and integration of existing technologies into an innovative COLLAGE platform for mobile learning
Means for achieving the project’s goals • The implementation and test of the COLLAGE learning support and information service with secondary school students and their teachers • The pedagogical evaluation of the COLLAGE project • The validation of the best practices of the COLLAGE project at a European level • The dissemination of the project, the exploitation of its potential for further development
Target groups of the project: Direct target group: • Secondary school students (12- 16 years old) • Secondary school teachers Indirect target groups: • Parents • education policy makers • technology developers • general public
