  5. Why a Safety Statement ? • Under the Safety, Health & Welfare Act 2005 every employer/club must prepare a Safety Statement • GAA National Policy Requirement • Funding Requirement

  6. Safety Statement Contd…. • Highlights the duties of employees/volunteers/contractors to co-operate with health & safety practices • Is updated regularly to take account of changing circumstances

  7. What is a Safety Statement Should include: • Declaration signed by Club management • Hazards identified & risks assessed • The protective and preventive measures taken – safeguards taken • Plans and procedures for dealing with emergencies / serious or imminent • Highlights the duties of employees/volunteers/contractors to co-operate with health & safety practices • The names of persons required to perform tasks pursuant to the safety statement – Club Structure

  8. Hazard Identification • What is a Hazard ? • A Hazard is anything that can cause harm to a person, place or the environment

  9. Risk Assessment • Identify the hazards • Decide who might be harmed and how? • Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions • Record your findings and implement them • Review your assessment and update if necessary

  10. Risk(R) = Likelihood(L) x Severity(S) 1-2 Low Risk, 3-5 Medium Risk 6-9 High Risk
