  2. Destructive Waves Sometimes internal movements of Earth cause undersea earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, undersea landslides or shifting of plates. These trigger waves, which assume enormous size and huge height on approaching the coast. They are termed as 'tsunami’ or tidal waves. But they are not caused by tides. They are actually ‘seismic’ sea waves. The height and speed of these waves are very high. (The largest Tsunami ever measured was 150 m high.) They may strike the coasts with huge force and cause great destruction. Thus, people who have lived through them call them 'Killer Waves.’ Cyclones, typhoons and hurricanes originating over sea cause sea storms. The high speed winds cause huge waves and make the sea rough.
