  1. Liver Transplant Surgery: Living Donor v/s Cadaveric Donor Liver Transplant is an intricate surgery wherein the damaged liver of a patient is surgically removed and replaced by a well functioning and healthy one. Liver diseases are often asymptomatic and they progress rapidly, causing irrecoverable damage to the liver tissues and decreasing the liver's ability to function. Hepatic diseases, once irrecoverable, can be fatal if a transplant surgery is not performed at the earliest. Liver transplant surgery involves two people, a patient and a donor. Liver donor can be of two types; living or cadaveric. The complex process of the surgery varies in each case and so does the other factors, like cost of liver transplant, risks, chances of success etc, as mentioned below: Process of Liver Transplant In Living Donor Liver Transplant, the damaged liver of the patient is surgically removed and replaced by a section of the donor's organ. The two sections of the donor's liver: now in different bodies; regenerate to form full-size livers, in few months. In case of Cadaveric Liver Transplant, the liver of a deceased body is surgically removed to replace the damaged organ in the patient's body. Cost of Liver Transplant TheCost of liver transplant in indiais relatively higher in case of Living Donor Liver Transplant, since it is a more intricate process and involves two living people. However, the cost of your transplant surgery depends upon a lot many factors like the type of Medical Institute: public or private, number of days you stay at the hospital, if or not you take a package etc.

  2. Risks Associated with Liver Transplant Surgery It is important to match the blood type before a Liver Transplant Surgery, irrespective of the type of donor to avoid Acute Liver Failure. The risk factor of the patient remains constant in both types of Transplant Surgery, but in case of Living Donor Liver Transplant, the risk extends to the donor as well. The degree of risk also depends upon the competency of your Liver Surgeon. Dr. Vivek Vij has the highest success rate of liver transplant success rate in india with 100% donor success rate and 95% patient success rate in over 2500 Liver Transplants. Finding a Donor for Liver Transplant Due to increase in morbidity rate, when it comes to hepatic illness, finding a Cadaveric Donor can cause delay in the surgery. In case of emergency, it is suggested to opt for a Living Donor Liver Transplant so as to avoid further complications and death of the patient (in extreme cases). Medical Institutes, upon finding a Cadaveric Donor, consider various factors like severity of condition, age, risk factor etc while choosing the patient. There is a dearth of Cadaveric Donors, which can be fatal for patients waiting for Liver Transplant Surgery. While cadaveric liver transplantation possesses relatively less risk of death, it can be opted when the severity of illness is not moderate, and the patient can survive the waiting duration. However, in cases of emergency, living donor liver transplant must be opted so as to save the patient's life.
