  1. Percentage and Its Calculation

  2. What is Percentage? • Percentage or Percent is anything out of 100. • Percent = per 100 (cent = 100) • i.e., 2 % is 2 out of 100.

  3. Fractions to Percentages • Consider you have an apple and you need to share it with your 3 sisters. So, in order to share, cut it into 4 equal parts. For each, 1 part of the whole apple (4 parts) is given. • Hence for each , it is 1 part in 4. • i.e., 1/4 = Fraction • The perentage of 1 in 4 is (1/4) * 100. • = 25 % • Hence the formula of perentage is • = Part / Whole * 100

  4. Percentage of 1 in 4

  5. Practice Problem • In a class there are 50 students. Out of 50, 30 are boys and 20 are girls. What is the percentage of boys and girls?

  6. Solution • Total number of students = 50 • No . Of Boys = 30 • No. of Girls = 20 • Perentage = (Part / Whole) * 100 • Percentage of Boys = (30 / 50) * 100 • = 60% • Percentage of Girls = (20/50)*100 • = 40%

  7. Percentage Calculation • Perentage can be calculated from the part and whole. • Part can be calculated when whole and percentage is given.
