Updates From Campus: Admissions Update • We received 39,999 admissions applications for fall 2013 freshman admission (new record) • Admit rate fell to 15.6% (new record) • We admitted students from the wait lists in some of our undergraduate colleges/schools • Our overall yield rose to 52.7% this year
Updates From Campus: Financial Aid • Cornell recently reviewed and affirmed its commitment to need-blind admissions for all candidates • Initiatives in place to make Cornell affordable and decrease student indebtedness • Parent Contribution Initiative: Families with a total family income of less than $60,000, and total assets of less than $100,000 (including primary home equity), will have no parent contribution.
Updates From Campus: Financial Aid • Loan Initiative: No loans required of students with family income of $60,000 or less. For all other families, loans capped based on total family income. • Award Match Initiative: Match family contribution components and lower loan level of financial aid offers from other Ivy schools. Strive to also match for Stanford, Duke, and MIT.
Updates From Campus: Facilities • New teaching winery opened on campus in April 2009 • Hotel School’s tower was renovated and opened late 2009 • New physical sciences building opened in late 2010 • New plantations visitor center opened 2011 • New Human Ecology building and adjacent parking garage opened fall 2011 • Milstein Hall (AAP) opened fall 2011
Updates From Campus: Facilities • Stocking hall remains under construction until 2014, but new dairy bar is now open • Gates Hall (computer/info sciences) construction scheduled for completion by end of 2013 • NYC Tech Campus now open in temporary space at Google. Campus construction scheduled for 2017 completion • Klarman Hall (humanities) now under construction -- scheduled to open in 2015
Updates From Campus: Academics • CALS now offers a major in Environmental Science and Sustainability • Marine biology concentration now available to biological sciences majors • University-wide Business minor now available • Theatre, Film, and Dance majors rolled into new Performing and Media Arts major • Cornell set to offer MOOCs through edX partnership
Updates From Campus: Academics • Architecture program ranked #1 by Architectural Record • Dyson School (Applied Economics and Management) ranked #3 by Businessweek • Engineering college ranked #7 by U.S. News • Two undergraduates named 2013 Rhodes Scholars • Two undergraduates named 2013 Truman Scholars
Updates From Campus: Athletics • Wrestler Kyle Dake ‘13 named Sports Illustrated collegiate athlete of the year • Rob Pannell (men’s lacrosse) won Tewaaraton trophy • Women’s hockey captured ECAC championship • Men’s lacrosse made it to NCAA final four • Women’s cross country won Heptagonal championship and finished 13th at Nationals • Men’s soccer won Ivy title and made NCAA tournament
