  2. DEFINITION OF LEADERSHIP • “Leadership is the ability to get a person to do what you want him to do, when you want it done, in a way you want it done, because he wants to do it.” (Dwight D. Eisenhower in Galloway 1990, 87).

  3. “Leadership is … doing the right things.” (Warren Bennis and Burt Nanus) • “Leadership is mastering paradoxes and what they stand for.” (Tom Peters)

  4. “Leadership is a reciprocal relationship between those who choose to lead and those who decide to follow.” (Kouzes & Posner 1993, 1) • “Leadership is influence.” (Maxwell 1993, 1; J. Oswald Sanders)

  5. It is “a dynamic process over an extended period of time in various situations in which a leader utilizing leadership resources and by specific leadership behaviors, influences the thoughts and activities of followers toward accomplishment of aims usually mutually beneficial for leaders, followers, and the macro context of which they are a part.” (Clinton 1988, 213)
