  2. An estimated 854 million people are hungry. Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes – that’s one child every five seconds.

  3. In the United States, 12.4 million children live in households where people have to skip meals or eat less to make ends meet. Nearly half of all families headed by a single mother are food insecure. In our nation’s cities, 1 in 4 peoplein a soup kitchen line is a child.

  6. More than 35 million Americans are “food insecure,” hungry, or at risk for hunger. Over half of the families that used a food pantry have children under 18 in the home. An estimated 35% of poor families are forced to choose between buying food and paying their rent or mortgage.

  7. In 2009, over 5 million meals were prepared and fed to the hungry in North America with Southern Baptists’ gifts to hunger relief. The Gospel was shared over 785,000 times because of opportunities provided through hunger ministries, with more than 36,000 people professing faith in Christ!

  8. At Calvary House Homeless Shelter in Beaumont, TX, $50 provides food assistance for a homeless family for a week. Rushing Wind Church can feed over 200 homeless people each month on the streets of Las Vegas with just $200 a quarter. At the Tallapoosa Christian Crisis Center in Alex City, AL, $1000 provides food assistance for 628 individuals for three months.

  9. Every human need has a face. Through gifts supporting world hunger efforts by Southern Baptist missionaries, you are helping individuals, families, and communities improve their way of life while seeing firsthand the love of Jesus. Your International Mission Board meets needs through projects in agriculture and livestock, health, food distribution, and vocational training.

  10. $35 may provide a food parcel to feed a family in Zimbabwe for one week. $500 may provide food, water, seed and fertilizer to five families affected by flooding in Eastern Europe. $1,100 may provide fertilizer and plant care to a farming community in Indonesia. $3,400 may provide a water well to a village in Central Asia.
