  25. Page 12 - Continued Let’s review the participation criteria for several student populations based on school requests for clarification.

  26. Page 12 Alternative Program Students Participation Criteria • A student is currently enrolled in one of the 6 grades tested, and • A student’s current physical, mental, and/or emotional needs do not prevent him or her from participating

  27. 1. 2. Page 12 - Continued The identified staff member at the school where the student is enrolled needs to complete 2 tasks. Call the site to confirm that the student can cope with taking the test sessions. Call the parents to confirm that they want their child to participate.

  28. Page 12 - 13 If the staff member receives a “YES” answer for Tasks 1 and 2, he or she needs to determine who will test the student.

  30. Go Back to Page 13 • English Language Learner Students • Participation Criterion • All FEP, LEP, and NEP students must take the Science or Writing Assessment, including those enrolled in their first year at a United States school.

  31. Page 13 - Continued 3.Hawaiian Language Immersion Program Students Participation Criteria • Students who are currently enrolled in grades 5, 7, and 11 must participate in the Hawaii State Science Assessment.

  32. Page 14 • Students who are currently enrolled in grades 6, 9, and 11 must participate in the Hawaii State Writing Assessment.

  33. Page 14 - Continued • Students who are currently enrolled in grade 4 are exempt from participating in the Hawaii State Writing Assessment. They may take this assessment as a courtesy if their parents submit a written request.

Home-Schooled Students Participation Criterion • The participation of students in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 11 in the Hawaii State Science and Writing Assessments is currently OPTIONAL, based on the Hawaii Administrative Rules, Chapter 12 Compulsory Attendance Exceptions. See page 17.

Page 16 - Continued In order to participate in the Hawaii State Science or Writing Assessments, a home-schooled student’s current grade level must be based on one of the following: chronological age, or adjusted grade level placement by a public or public charter school prior to a student’s home-schooled status, or course credits

  36. Page 16 - Continued All home-schooled students in the identified grades are offered free testing as a COURTESY. Home-schooled students’ scores for the Hawaii State Science or Writing Assessments will not be included in a school’s grade, complex area, or school- level results.

  39. Public Charter Schools Go Back to Page 19 9. Public Charter School Students Participation Criteria • All Public Charter School students who are currently enrolled in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, and 11 must participate in the Hawaii State Science or Writing Assessment.

  42. 1. 2. Pages 22 - 23 Let’s review the four criteria that must be met when an ELL, Grade 5 HLIP, IDEA-eligible, or Section 504 student is given an accommodation. It is based on a student’s identified learning needs; and currently provided during classroom instruction; and

  46. Page 22 - Continued HLIP Students • See pages 25–27 where the specific accommodations are listed for identified HLIP students in any grade tested who are receiving ELL, IDEA-eligible, or Section 504 services.
