Stabilisation • Stability is of prime importance at any RTA • Should take very little time to establish and be re-assessed periodically during the duration of the extrication • The position of the vehicle should not prevent adequate stabilisation taking place.
Stabilisation A variety of equipment is utilised to achieve stability, for example; • Step chocks • Blocks and wedges • Pneumatic lifting units (air bags) • Hydraulic equipment • Mechanical winches.
Step chocks • Advantages; One piece design ensureseasy handling • Disadvantages; Can cause obstruction to opening doors if not placed correctly.
