  1. Today's healthcare system demands a strong effective leadership from physicians as it is changing from fee-for-service payment to a pay-for-performance model.

  2. According to a recent article published by Health Affairs titled “The First National Survey of ACOs Finds That Physicians Are Playing Strong Leadership and Ownership Roles” – • 51 % of ACOs were physician-led. • 33% ACOs were jointly led by physicians and hospitals. In 78 % of ACOs, physicians constituted a majority of the governing board, and physicians owned 40 %of ACOs.

Before joining the University faculty in 2012, Dr. Deegan was Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical & Quality Officer for Texas Health Resources (THR), the largest not-for-profit healthcare delivery system in North Texas.
