A Day in the Life of a Ziqitza Healthcare Paramedic: A Personal Account of Serving on the Frontlines of Emergency Medical Services in India
Millions of people in India are at risk of a medical emergency every day, with little time to waste in saving a life. As one of India's largest ambulance providers, Ziqitza Healthcare delivers emergency medical services quickly and efficiently, providing critical care to patients when they need it most. As a Ziqitza Healthcare paramedic, I've served on the frontlines, responding to countless emergencies and saving lives. Ziqitza Limited was established in 2005 by Sweta Mangal along with Naresh Jain, Manish Sacheti, Ravi Krishna, and Shaffi Mather with a mission to provide high-quality emergency medical services to people in need across India.
My day usually starts early in the morning, around 6:00 AM. After getting dressed and having breakfast, I head to the Ziqitza ambulance station, where I start my shift by checking my ambulance and equipment to ensure that everything is in working order. As a paramedic, I'm responsible for a wide range of medical equipment, including oxygen tanks, defibrillators, and various medications, so it's important to make sure that everything is ready to go at a moment's notice. Once I'm confident that everything is in order, I wait for my first call of the day. When a call comes in, it's usually dispatched through the Ziqitza Healthcare ltd central control room, where the operator will provide me with the details of the emergency and the location of the patient. From there, it's up to me and my partner to navigate through the busy streets of India to get to the patient as quickly as possible.
As paramedics in India, we face a wide variety of emergencies, responding to calls that come in fast and furious with little time to catch our breath. From traffic accidents and cardiac arrests to seizures and diabetic emergencies, every call presents unique challenges that require quick thinking and on-the-spot decision-making. Dealing with the traffic is one of the most challenging aspects of our job, as the congested streets, especially during rush hour, can make it difficult to get to the patient quickly. However, we've learned to navigate the streets quickly and efficiently, using sirens and flashing lights to clear the way and get to the patient as quickly as possible. Upon arriving at the scene of an emergency, we assess the patient's condition by checking their vital signs and asking questions to determine the necessary care. We provide life-saving treatment like CPR or defibrillation and transport the patient to the nearest hospital for further treatment while continuing to monitor their condition and provide ongoing care during the ride. Staying focused and alert is essential to ensure that the patient receives the best possible care, even in the most stressful situations
As a paramedic, I've witnessed firsthand the impact of our work on people's lives - from saving patients on the brink of death to providing relief to their loved ones. But the job also comes with challenges: long hours, stressful situations, and exposure to trauma. Despite these difficulties, we're driven by a sense of purpose and a desire to make a positive impact in our communities. Despite the challenges, being a Ziqitza Rajasthan paramedic is incredibly rewarding. We're part of a team that's dedicated to providing the highest quality emergency medical services to those in need. We work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care. But our work doesn't end when we drop off the patient at the hospital. We're responsible for completing detailed reports on every call we respond to, documenting the patient's condition, the treatment we provided, and the outcome of the call. This documentation is crucial for ensuring continuity of care and for providing accurate and timely information to other healthcare professionals who may be involved in the patient's care.
As a Ziqitza Healthcare limited paramedic, being responsible for providing critical care to patients in emergency situations, often in difficult and challenging circumstances is demanding but incredibly rewarding. At the end of a long shift, the sense of pride and accomplishment in making a difference in someone's life and serving as a part of such a vital and compassionate team is an honour. Driven by the passion and dedication to help others and make a positive impact in our communities, being a Ziqitza Healthcare paramedic is an incredibly rewarding job.
