International Baccalaureate Mission Statement The International Baccalaureate Organisation aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

The IB Diploma Model • Group 1 – Studies in Language and Literature • Group 2 – Language Acquisition • Group 3 - Individuals and Societies • Group 4 - Sciences • Group 5 - Mathematics • Group 6 - Arts & Electives • Core – Theory of Knowledge; Creativity, Action, Service; and The Extended Essay
IB Diploma Assessment • Each subject is graded on a scale of 0-7 points (6 subjects x 7 points = 42) • Central Elements can earn up to 3 additional points • Maximum of 45 points
IB Diploma Assessment • Both Internal and External Assessment use established grading criteria • Multiple Methods of Assessment for each course • Over 5000 examiners worldwide • Students maintain some choice in many aspects of assessment—in other words, these are NOT multiple choice exams (written, oral, group, presentation, recorded) • A RELIABLE METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
International Baccalaureate Courses • Students are required to complete between 2 and 5 IB Courses in their Grade 11 and 12 years • Students may choose any combination of courses • Students are not required to complete the central elements • Also known as “Partial IB”

UBC Study Conclusions •IB Diploma is a very strong predictor of first year success. •IB students tend to be academically strong, highly engaged first-year students. •The vast majority of IB students perform in first year at the same level as an A-student (in the Canadian system) or better. •Even with some over-anticipation in anticipated grades, assessments are very reliable. •IB students with transfer credits succeed when entering directly into upper year classes. *see our website under “About”

CHCI IB Course Results May 2016 Results: 297 students wrote IB examinations • 62% of IB Bio students scored 93% +; 26% scored 97% + • 62% of IB Chem students scored 93% +; 22% scored 97% + • 60% of IB Math students scored 93% +; 27% scored 97% + • This year, we have 303 students writing IB exams in May 2017

IB Application Procedures • Students must submit to their elementary school counsellor: - IB Application Form - Grade Nine Course Selection Form - Teacher Commentary Form - Grade 7 Report Card/Most Recent Mark Report -$50 Application Fee ( to arrive at Cameron Heights by January 16th)
Acceptance into the IB Programme • Late January: Students will be notified regarding their acceptance by letter (Canada Post) and/or email and successful applicants will be offered a seat in the program • February 6th : Students must confirm their seat in the IB Programme by returning the offer to CHCI and notifying their elementary home school • All of this information and the Application are on our website under the IB tab -- Admissions

FAQs Is transportation provided? -Not to students who reside outside of our “normal” CHCI boundary -Cambridge students – must apply to GPSS
