Tevatron progress: May’03 to Aug’03 • Luminosity: (average initial peak L) • mid-May (6 stores #2538-2555) L=42.8 • End of July (5 stores #2815-2826) L=40.1 • 6% drop in peak luminosity: • +3% in protons,+3% in pbars,-12% in emmittance (blown) • record L as of May.30 44.9e30 store #2555 record L as of Aug.8 45.3e30 store #2824 • lifetimes of N_p, N_pbar somewhat worse , L ~the same, eff-emittance lifetime improved (1927hrs)
Operations/Reliability: • 9.7 pb-1/week (record), July 21-27 • helpful operational orbit smoothing (CYTan) • Differential chromaticity reduced luminosity(Yuri) • Lower inj energy for pbars efficiency (Bruce) • various problems with RF system (3 stores) • TEL HV modulator repair – 16 hrs access • collimators control (1 store) – fixed (Dean) • PSs trips – too frequent, A2A3 change • flaws with C49 tables reloading (doubled lines) • large pbar losses on ramp, regular “scallops”, P10 unstable after seq.25
Tevatron Beam Physics Progress: • Lattice measurements (Valeri, Petr) reveal -drifts • Ring wide aperture and dQ scans (Yuri, +) • S6 sextupole detuning, diff Chroma fixed (YA, +) • V4YA ramp helix in process (Yuri, Ron, Jerry, +) • Pbar b-by-b orbits as in model (TSen) • 1 unit b_0 drift observed at MTF (PBauer) • 5* injection helix – set aside • not much progress with emittance at inj
Tevatron Diagnostics: • Progress with new Schottky for Qv,h ,Cv,h,emm(AJ,JS,RP) • QXR quads tested with beam (Andreas) • Cv,h from “tunefitter” progress >½ done (Paul) • Interesting results with Ekotech BPMs (Webber, Sheppert) • SBDP(A)IS calibrated to1% (Alvin, Bob Flora) • Slow progress in understanding SL/FW/Collim (AJ,JS,SP)
Misc. : • Passed DoE review with ~B mark (many people) • Shutdown work reviews: A48 (Ron, Wolff), F0 (PeterI,JimV,Jerry), Alignment (Ray, PeterG) • Letters of Recognition: Ranjbar, Alexahin, Hanna • New BPM project launched (JimS, Steven Wolbers) • Upgrade of beam studies Web page – again! (Dean) • Tough situation with time for studies, need to show discipline and progress, McGinnis approach
Next Two Months: • Operation/Maintenance: • Install, commission inj-dampers (JimS, Tan) • Finish preparations and start 7(10)wk shutdown: • F0 liner (Peter, Jim Volk) • A48 (Ron) • Alignment: rolls, quads, stands, smart bolts, HLSs (Ray,J V) • Vacuum (Bruce) – to be reviewed • CDF shield wall (JimV) – to be reviewed • Rewire octupoles (BPhys, Petr, Jerry) – decide upon details • Beam studies before shutdown: • New helix reduce loss on ramp (Yuri, +) • Emm at injection (Tev, beamlines) (DaveJ,Val,JA) • Studies which may affect shutdown work • Lattice, diagnostics (C_v,h), etc
Next Two Months (cont’d): • Diagnostics: • Tev BMP review by Oct 1(JimS) • Tev IPM review by Oct.1 (Andreas) • Cv,h and coupling from tunefitter (Paul L) • Cv,h Qv,h and coupling from head-tail (Vahid) • Pbar tunes from old Schottky (Markus, Paul L) • Abort gap monitor (H.Cheung) • Continue on SL vs FW vs coll (AJ, JS, Stephen) • Misc: • New helix/separators review in Aug (Ron) • BBC with wires review in Sep (Tanaji)
Next Two Months: Expectations • Last time it was “… we are around 45-51 by Aug 1” - we are at 45.3e30 • Over next 2-2½ months, I expect: • shutdown to start Sep 8 • we will get 225 pb-1 over FY’03 • possible improvements • 5-10% more p and pbars due to new helix commissioning • As the result, I expect we’ll be around 45-51e30 by Sep.8, 2003
