  3. The Simple Presesnt Tense We use the simple present tense to express permanent habits , general truths and facts , ideas , opinions , feelings and proverbs .

  4. The Form : I We They You He She It + base form base form + + s (es)

  5. The adverbs used are : 1- always , often , sometimes , usually , generally , rarely , ...etc 2- every ( day , week , year , summer , ...etc .) once or twice ( a week , a month , a year ) several times ( a week , a month , a year ) daily , weekly , monthly , yearly .

  6. Example : 1- It usually rains in winter . 2- She rarlely sleeps early . 3- We never drink wine . 4- They eat fish twice a month . 5- It is better to be safe than sorry . 6- The sun rises from the east every morning .

  7. EXERCISE : * Correct the verbs between brackets : 1- He often ( rest ) after lunch . 2- Wood always ( float ) . 3- Children usually ( love ) their parents . 4- He rarely ( take ) care of his motorbike . 5- She ( believe ) in Islam .

  9. The Simple Past Tense This tense is used to express an event that happened in the past

  10. The Form : I We They You He She It + base form + ed base form +ed + ( Except irregular verbs )

  11. It is associated with adverbs with past time : yesterday , ago , in the past last ( week , night , summer , sunday ...etc ) when I was , three days before , in 1948 .

  12. Example : 1- The donkey ate all the grass two days ago . 2- She sold her car last night . 3- I had a bath yesterday . 4- They came her in 1967 . 5- The thieves stole all my money this morning .

  13. EXERCISE : * Put the verbs in brackets into the correct simple past : 1- We all ( study ) English when we are at school . 2- I ( have ) my dinner at Hilton seven days ago . 3- last summer I ( travel ) to Palestine . 4- Last year I ( use ) to ( walk ) to school everyday .
