Whatis “Past Simple”? • We use past simple to talk about actions and habits which we already completed in the past. Subject(the person or thing doing the action) + Verb(ed) It (the weather) rained very heavily during the last rainy season. • You might see these words in the past simple tense: - yesterday - last year/last month/last night - three weeks ago - for 6 weeks
Examples of Past Simple • I lived in London two years ago. (live=lived) • The students walked to school. (walk=walked) • I ate bananas yesterday. (eat=ate) • Did they dance last night? (do=did)
Past continuous • Used to describe past actions which lasted for a period of time. • FORM [was/were + verb + -ing ] • Examples: • We were studying when she called. • Were you studying when she called? • I was watching TV when she called.
Positive Was/ Were Negative
Present Simple • Used to talk about a habit or a behavior • FORM [Subject + VERB] if its ‘he’, ‘she’ or ‘it’ add an extra ‘s’ to the verb. • Examples: • {I, you, we, they} like chocolate. • {He, she, it} likes chocolate. • {I, you, we, they} do not like coffee. • {He, she, it} does not like coffee.
What is “Present continuous”? • We use present continuous to show that something is happening now, at this very moment. Also it can show something that is not happening now. • Form: Subject + (is/am/are) + Verb-ing You need to remember this !!!!
Examples of Present continuous • I am studying to become a doctor.(study=studying) • He is not reading a book.(read=reading) • She is meeting some friends after work.(meet=meeting) • Aren’t they coming with us tonight? (come=coming) • They are eating pizza.(eat=eating)
