Who is a Visitor or a migrant? • VISITOR: a traveller taking a trip to any destination outside his/her usual environment for any purpose other than working for a local company. • They can be domestic (from the same country) or international. • MIGRANT: someone moving to a place to live
Who falls under the “Other” category? • Border workers • Seasonal workers, other short-term workers • Diplomats • Armed forces • Frequent border crossers • Long-term students
Types of visitors • TOURIST: Someone who visits one place for more than 24 hours (overnight), but less than one year. • SAME-DAY VISITORS: They visit for less than 24 hours, not technically a tourist. They may come for recreational or business purposes.
Types of Tourist • Recreation/Leisure : just for fun and relaxation • Business: coming for a meeting or a convention or something else business-related • Social: coming to see friends or family • Education: on a field trip, or on exchange • Health: going to a clinic or to have surgery • Religion: going on a pilgrimage or on a mission • Shopping: self-explanatory! • Transit: on your way to somewhere else, on a layover • Sports: to watch or participate in a sporting event • Cultural: to experience the culture of a place, to go to a festival
