  2. Goal of today’s discussion:

  3. L.A. Care Background • The Nations largest public health plan. • Serving over 800,000 of Los Angeles County’s low –income and vulnerable residents. • Enabling legislation required the creation of committees for member advocates (Regional Community advisory Committees)

  4. Goals of the RCAC: • Provide member feedback to the BOG on key healthcare issues. • Support L.A. Cares strategic initiatives. • Advocate for improving the health and well being of their communities.

  5. Goals of the RCAC: Improve their own health and well being. Set priorities for health education and outreach programs based on identified needs of the communities they serve. Build collaborative relationships with cbo’s in support of identified needs.

  9. One Major Accomplishment Board of Governors approved the RCAC’s motion to implement a family premium to save Healthy Kids Insurance Program. As result of this effort: • The Healthy Kids Insurance Program was saved. • 71% of membership retained.

  10. What is our Community Health Improvement Project (CHIP)? • Grassroots effort that educates and empowers consumer members to assist L.A. Care Health Plan to conduct primortial health education throughout Los Angeles County.

Multiethnic- Health Promoters Program • Launched in 2007 • Volunteer RCAC members trained by established community partners (ADA, Behavioral Health Services, Partners for Progress) • 51 certified Health Promoters • Collaborate with L.A. Care’s Health Educators(MPH) to conduct trainings at Regional Community Advisory meetings, local community based organizations and at L.A. Cares Family Resource Centers(2)
