Franchise • 11 Stanley Cup Championships, third overall in NHL. • 18 Straight NHL playoff appearances, League record • Last Stanley Cup Championship was in 2007 • Currently Coached by Mike Babcock. • Currently known for their European Style of play • Some say they are the best franchise in sports

Joe Louis Arena • Home of the Detroit Red Wings located in Detroit, Michigan • Nicknamed “The Joe”, named after boxing great Joe Louis. • Built in 1979 , held all start game in their first season • One of few arenas without a corporate name • Cost 57 Million to construct the arena. • First game played was December 27th, 1979 against the St. Louis Blues.

My Favorite Players • Nicklas Lidstrom, wears number 5 for the Red Wings • Born in Sweden, one of many Swedish born players • Captain and Defensemen , considered the best defensemen in the game right now. • Top 5 Defensemen in history, very diciplined player. • Captain of Swedish national team • Made his reputation by being a clean player and being very respectful on and off the ice.

My Favorite Players • Henrik Zetterberg, wears number 40 for the Red Wings • Born in Sweden, one of the many Swedish born players • Alternate Captain, predicted to be the Red Wings next captain • All-Star in 2007 with many more to come • Red Wing leading goal scorer in 2007 • Plays for the Sweedish national team as well

Past Greats • Gordie Howe, his number nine jersey is retired at Joe Louis Arena • Canadian born, one of the most loved Canadians of all time • Nicknamed “Mr. Hockey” • Detroit’s all-time leading goal scorer • Led Detroit to four Stanley Cups • Created the “Gordie Howe” Hat Trick, this consists of one goal, one assist and one fight.

Past Greats • Steve Yzerman, his number 19 is retired at Joe Louis Arena • Born in British Columbia, Played in the Ontario Hockey League • Played entire career with Red Wings • Won three Stanley Cups, hoisted everyone first. • Nicknamed “The Captain”, Was Captain his entire career. • One of the most loved hockey players across the world

  9. Coach • Mike Babcock, Been coaching since 1991 • Born in Ontario, Canada. Played hockey their his whole life. • Coach of the Detroit Red Wings, Previously with the Ducks • Former NHL player, wasn’t as successful as a player. • Led the Red Wings to the 2007-2008 Stanley Cup • Has only won one Stanley Cup but there are many more to come
