Questions • To what extent is this "bottom-up" vs. "top-down"? • To what extent does funding emphasis lead research or vice versa? • What is the role of practical applications? • Can industry influence the direction of research in universities? If so, how? • What is a role for US-China collaborations in shaping the research agenda for computer science?
To what extent is this "bottom-up" vs. "top-down"? • First, bottom-up, suggestions and proposals collected • Workshop discussion, form the initial cfp • Finally, top-down, cfp

What is the role of practical applications? • In MOST, there are two kinds of practical application program • 863 target-directed program, range from several M to dozens of M, leading with research unit or industry • S&T Supporting program, ranging from dozens of M to hundreds of M
Can industry influence the direction of research in universities? If so, how? • Most international industry research lab has great influence to the research in China, such as Intel, IBM, MSRA, EMC, Google • For some large domestic industries, to some extend, has also great influence to the research in China, such as Huawei, China Mobile, UTStarcom, ZTE, Inspur, Lenovo, Tencent, Baidu
What is a role for US-China collaborations in shaping the research agenda for computer science? • Exchange research idea, inspiring creative thinking, get to know each other about the research topics • Focus on some common interests after each summit, and support the real collaboration between US and China
