  3. Priorities • What are some of our top priorities as Cadets? • Academics • Fulfilling our roles as leaders in the Cadet Corps • Mental, Spiritual, and Physical Discipline

  4. Why do we NEED a Training Chain? • Honor: A commitment to sound moral values and strong character by respecting others as you fulfill your duties as a member of the Corps of Cadets • Integrity: The honesty and moral courage to always defend what is right. • Selfless Service: The desire and ability to put others before self, making personal sacrifices to better our Corps, University, State, and Nation. • Discipline: Striving for excellence by holding yourself and others accountable to a higher standard.

  5. Why do we NEED a Training Chain? • Apathy • Double Standards • Ignorance

  6. Apathy • People DO NOT care • Lazy • Following the example of peers and past upperclassmen • No Incentives • Why should I care about being physically fit? • Why should I care about what I eat? • Why should I care about passing the pft?

  7. Double Standards • Is fish year the only year cadets are held, consistently, to a physical fitness standard by their outfit? • Or is it just “initiation” • Cadets signing out their buddies because they don’t want to go to activity • Upperclassmen are not always held accountable for poor PFT scores and not going to activities.

  8. Ignorance • Does the average upperclassmen know how to effectively train a freshman class? • Most know just what they experienced in their outfit or during high school. • Many don’t understand how the body works. What it NEEDS to improve. • I can eat anything I want, I’ll just work it off on the run this afternoon. • WRONG! • Do outfits talk to their freshman about eating properly? • Has Diet ever been important in an outfit’s training regimen? • YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

  10. Purpose • Set Policy and Standards for Physical Training in the Corps • Promote Nutrition in the Corps of Cadets

  11. PFT • NEW Class System • 1stClass 276 or Above • 2nd Class 251-275 • 3rd Class 226-250 • 4th225 and Below (Remedial)

  12. Goals for Fall 2011 • Corps Average PFT score of over 240 • Establishing and promoting the use of the new Height/Weight system on CMS. This includes • Height • Weight • Body Fat % • BMI (Body Mass Index) • Improving the quality of food offered at Duncan

  13. Goals Continued • By the end of the semester our goal is to cut out Remedial PT because of the improvement we are going to make during the semester. • PT scores will be higher this year than any year in the past by the end of the two semesters

  14. PFT Test • Right now the PT Test will stay the same as last year. • Possibility of Pullups being added in the Spring • PFT Maximum and Minimum scores will be raised in the Spring Semester.

  15. Height/Weight • H/W • Body Fat% • BMI • Combined all three are an effective system for predicting the fitness of a cadet.

Health and Fitness • Meetings on Wednesday at 1900 for MU Training Staff. • 4 new Corps – Wide Workouts to be given at the meetings by Corps Training Officer • Talking to Duncan about removing unhealthy foods (ex: tater tots, corn dogs, etc) • Take the time and effort to explain to your major unit staff and outfits why nutrition is crucial in their training regimen. RESEARCH!

  18. Corps Functional Fitness Program • Danny Motocha and Evan Koehler are contracted MS 5’s who are willing to help whichever outfits need help on PT. • They will work through us to help specific outfits who are interested or need improvement on their PT scores. • They are taking this very seriously, so if you are going to volunteer your outfit to do this you better be ready to work. • Contact Matthew Harris if you want these guys to help your outfits with PT and Nutrition.

  19. Training Evaluations • Be CONSISTENT in your grading • Don’t grade too high at the beginning of the year… we want to see improvement. • Be Fair • Offer help to outfits struggle with their PT program • Corps Functional Fitness Program • Your own experience, expertise • Trigon

  20. Training Evaluations • Each major unit must have an evaluation of each of their outfits for every meeting. • That’s once every 2 weeks. • MU Training or Operations staff may evaluate an outfit.
