Indoor Positioning System by Using WiFi Triangulation and RF Fingerprintingby Mustafa Abdat
Problem Statement • There is a need for accurate indoor wireless positioning system • GPS does not work well in indoor environment • Implementing only one technique (Triangulation, Multilateration, RSSI) is least precise
Techniques • Triangulation • RF Fingerprinting • Active and Passive Approach
Triangulation • Advantages: • Only determining the position of the AP is required • Disadvantages: • Physical barriers reduce signal strength and lead to inaccurate result • Signal strength measurements up to a radius of 5 m can be almost identical
Triangulation (cont’d) AP3 AP1 AP2
RF Fingerprinting Grid space of 1.5 * 1.5m. • Advantages: • High Accuracy • Disadvantages: • Site-survey is required • New object -> new measurements
Proposed Solution • Triangulation and RF Fingerprinting • Enhanced NNSS (Nearest Neighbors in Signal Space) Algorithm • Active / Passive Approach
