You are working with others, communicating, using ICT, applying numbers & problem solving… Challenge • You are going to complete a challenge – you have today’s lesson, next lesson & the start of the following lesson to complete the challenge. • You’re going to need to work in groups of 2-3 people. • Your challenge is to… • Design a Hajj pilgrimage website • Things you need to know before you start: • Muslim pilgrims often travel on Hajj with a travel company as it is very difficult & expensive to organise all the travel arrangements yourself. • Some of these travel companies have websites to attract pilgrims to travel with them, rather than having travel brochures. • Things you need to know about the challenge: • You are setting up a Hajj pilgrimage travel company – you need to design the company’s website. • Using PowerPoint you need to create your company’s web pages to advertise the Hajj pilgrimage packages (like holiday travel packages) to Muslim pilgrims – this is big business, pilgrims will pay thousands of pounds to have the whole of their pilgrimage organised for them!
Things you need to include in your Hajj company’s website: • A minimum of 4 PowerPoint slides • A name & logo for your Hajj company • A map showing where Makkah (also spelt Mecca) is (Mecca is in a country called Saudi Arabia) • An itinerary for the pilgrimage (use your Hajj route map to give you all of the details for this) • A photo gallery, with labelled pictures of what pilgrims would expect to see during their Hajj pilgrimage • Prices of different pilgrimage packages (e.g. a luxury package – an economy package) • These websites of Hajj companies that pilgrims actually use might be useful for ideas… • http://www.hajjumrahuk.com/ • http://www.hajjandumrahtours.co.uk/index.php • http://www.hajis.co.uk/index.asp
Playing fair... The way that you do well in challenges like these are very similar to the way that you do well in football - you need to play by the ‘Fair Play Rules’. These mean that: All members of the team consider each other. All members of the team play for each other (it’s a team effort!) People don’t foul each other. It’s the team that will do well (or not!) not individual members. The team plays to it’s strengths. All team members work hard for each other.
