The Boxes 3 4 9 Question: 34x9=? Answer: 306 1 3 6 2 3 7 0 6 Each Lattice equation must have boxes. In this case for this equation it is a 2 by 1 box but if it was 56x23 it would be a 2 by 2 box.
Putting the Numbers in the Box • 5 • 7 • 2 3 • 0 6 3 2 1 When you put the numbers in the boxes put the tens in the top box and the ones in the smaller box. 1 3 5 8 4 4 2 O For each number you multiply the top number on the side by the two top numbers in the Top 2 boxes then repeat with the bottom number
Adding the Numbers Up • 7 • 7 • 9 1 2 4 2 8 9 3 3 6 6 3 7 3 1 As shown in the example above, you add the numbers in a diagonal way then carry if needed and put the number in the ones place in the bottom space.
Getting your Answer • 7 • 7 • 9 1 2 4 2 8 9 3 3 6 6 3 7 3 1 Answer: 3,713
Please make sure to do each step when you solve a lattice problem or you might get the wrong answer. Also ask your teacher if you should make an Estimate first.
