3. Notification to ParentsRight To Know • Parents may request information about the professional qualifications of the student’s teachers and paraprofessionals. • By the LEA to parents at the beginning of the school year • 1111(h)(6) and (C)

4. Notification to ParentsRight To Know • The level of achievement of their child(ren) on the state academic assessments • By the school to parents • Time of the year to be determined by the LEA • 1111(h)(6)(B)(i)

Notification to Parents:Parental Involvement Policies • LEAs must notify parents of the LEA-level Parental Involvement Policy. • Schools must notify parents of the school-level Parental Involvement Policy. • Time of the year to be determined by the LEA, but should be close to the beginning of the school year. • 1118(a)((2) and (b)(1)

8. Notification to ParentsMeeting • Invite parents to an informational meeting regarding Title I, Part A programs. • Explain the requirements and their rights to be involved. • By schools to parents on an annual basis • 1118(c)(1) and (2)

9. Notification to ParentsTitle I Information • Inform parents of specific information regarding the school’s Title I programs and offer the opportunity to become involved. • Description of the school’s curriculum • Forms of academic assessment • Proficiency standards • By the school to parents in a timely fashion • Can be shared at the annual meeting. • 1118(c)(4)

12. Meeting • Schools must hold an annual meeting regarding the Title I program. • Schools must explain the Title I requirements and the rights of parents to be involved in the Title I programs. • Schools should offer other meetings at flexible times. • At a time to be determined by the LEA that is convenient for parents. • 1118(c)(1) and (2)

LEA-Level Parental Involvement PolicyRequirements • Describe how the LEA will: • involve parents in the development of the LEA Plan; • provide support to schools in planning and implementing parental involvement activities; • build the schools’ and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement; • coordinate and integrate Title I parent involvement strategies with other federal programs; • conduct an annual evaluation of the Title I parental involvement policy (identify barriers, design more effective strategies, revise the policy); and • involve parents in parental involvement activities.

16. School-Parent CompactRequirements • Must include: • school’s responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instructions, • ways parents are responsible for supporting their child(ren)’s learning, and • the importance of communication between teachersand parents

17. Training and Assistance • LEAs must provide trainings to parents to help them understand how to become an equal partner in improving their children’s academic achievement. 1118(e)(1) • LEAs and schools must provide training and materials to help parents work with their children. • LEAs must help parents with the use of technology to foster parental involvement. 1118(e)(2)

18. Training and Assistance • School staff must be educated regarding the value and utility of the contributions of parents, and in how to reach out to, communicate with, and work with parents, implement and coordinate parent programs, and build ties between parents and schools. 1118(e)(3) and (6)

19. Parental Involvement Funding • 1% of the Title I allocation must be set-aside for parental involvement activities.* • After equitable services is subtracted, 95% of the remainder must be reserved for schools. • The 95% may be allocated to schools as determined appropriate by the LEA.* • Funds must be used to implement the requirements of section 1118 for the purposes of increased student achievement. • *An LEAs with an allocation less than $500,000 is not required to set-aside funds, but must implement the requirements of section 1118.

20. Coordinate and Integrate • Schools and LEAs must coordinate and integrate Title I services with other federal programs listed in section 1118. • Schools and LEAs must conduct other parental involvement activities that encourage and support parents in becoming involved. Section 1118(e)(4)
