  1. Planning for the Plan Jason Ellingson, Collins-Maxwell April 2, 2010

  2. Goals / Objectives • Ease the work, ease the stress • Make it is a “Great” Friday • Discuss the online self-study module • Discuss website for support • Discuss planning for the implementation plan

  3. Self-Study online • How many have completed it? • My process: • Used paper format with Post-Its • Using online as note-taking device • Login and review • Username: CM_trial • Password: Trial247 • Self-Study District Usercode: ColMax0910

  4. Self-Study online • Three parts for each outcome • Text box for narrative • I addressed every letter explicitly • Likert scale for established practices • I used; want to see our progress • Action Priority ranking • Haven’t used; would be cool if the text boxes were realigned due to priority rank

  5. Self-Study online • Be careful not to click “Study is Done” • Districts can no longer edit that data • Sends data anonymously to state/AEA • I will continue to edit my one self-study until the implementation plan is completed

  6. Self-Study online • My concerns: • How to organize S-S data into plan? • DE expectation to review and update with regularity • I typed a lot that I wish could be easily copied - I have asked for “porting” • A lot of work to do from the self-study

  7. REFLECTION • What did you hear about the self-study that . . . 1. Was new information? 2. Caused you confusion? 3. Connected with your prior learnings? 4. Excited you to get started?

  8. My website • Some redundant work for districts • So I did it for everyone • (If you like the quality) • www.iowacorecoop.pbworks.com • Outcome Documents page • Review

  9. My website • Outcome Documents page • Addresses self-study expectations • Planning for the Plan page • My frame for our plan work • Change is the Only Constant page • Book reviews/tools to manage the change process (action 1.a.3 )

  10. My website • CEI briefs page • To address the CEI literature for outcome 6 • Iowa’s AEA Iowa Core Curriculum webpages • See the work of other AEAs

  11. REFLECTION • What did you hear about the website that . . . 1. Eased your workload? 2. Confused you? 3. Still needs to be added?

  12. Implementation Plan • CNAC Core Curriculum Processing Protocol (Thank you, Lowell) • MISIC - 21 Heartland districts have access to their support • Other AEAs • Iowa Department of Education

  13. Implementation Plan • Used the self-study to plan the plan • Action 3.a.1 • Like nailing Jell-O to the wall? • Picture 1 • Picture 2

  14. Implementation Plan • Hoping for “port” capabilities from the self-study • Until then, printed out the self-study results, and started grouping • Three focus areas - • Structure, Support, Sustain • Document on www.iowacorecoop.pbworks.com

  15. Implementation Plan • Structure, Support, Sustain • Each a year-long process • Trying to “frame” the change process • Using the results of the self-study • My plan for the plan • Theory of change (Assessing Impact) • KASAB (Assessing Impact)

  16. Implementation Plan • My planning - Theory of change • Pull those actions of “structure” first • Create Post-It notes to align the items in the theory • Repeat for “support” • Conclude with “sustain”

  17. Implementation Plan • My planning - KASAB • Knowledge • Attitude • Skills • Aspirations • Behaviors • For teachers and administrators

  18. Implementation Plan • Once grouped or framed . . . • “Structure, Support, Sustain” • Then aligned . . . • Theory of change, KASAB • Then pulled back apart to complete the ICC Implementation Plan online application

  19. Implementation Plan • Three components online for each outcome’s actions • Activities • Resources • Timeline • Evidence of Progress • Indicators of Success

  20. Implementation Plan • My concerns: • Does not feel like a cohesive plan • More segmented than I like • If the outcomes’ actions were sequenced by priority, we’d have a clearer (linear) plan • Random abstract people are just fine • Write like CSIP with action coding

  21. Implementation Plan • Watch the ICC Implementation Plan tutorial • Review the self-study and implementation plan handbook • Contact me.  • 515-387-1115 • jellingson@collins-maxwell.k12.ia.us

  22. REFLECTION • What did you hear about the implementation plan and its process that . . . 1. Eased your stress 2. Confused you? 3. Was new information? 4. You still need help on?
