New Developments in ROCKET: Collaborative Web-based Workspaces for Sharing Information and Documents Jacqueline Kirby September 28, 2012
ROCKET is a web-based tool for sharing information and documents, allowing members of a workspace to collaborate more effectively and efficiently by building and sharing web pages.
Anyone • Any member of the Vanderbilt and Meharry communities (with a valid VUNet ID and password) can access ROCKET and create a workspace on StarBRITE. • External users can be added to a workspace by a Vanderbilt or Meharry workspace owner/admin. External users only can access existing workspaces in collaboration with a Vanderbilt/Meharry user. They only need to be invited to a space to get access.
My Projects • Create New Workspace • Organize Workspaces – Create and Manage tags, Hid Workspaces you are not using • Search Workspaces – you can only search Workspaces you are a member • Workspace Tools • Rename Workspace (only Admin users can do this) • Clone (only users with Write Rights can do this) • Members(only Admin users can do this) • Delete – Note this deletes the workspace for everyone and is permanent (only Admin users can do this) • Create a Short URL for the space (only Admin users can do this) • Notifications • By default, these appear in your Dashboard, but users can self-select if they would like Notifications to get sent as an email in addition • Schedule • Get additional information and help about ROCKET
Admin – Manage users on the workspace; has all user privileges(Create/Read/Write/Delete/Sort), Can Lock pages, Can create Short URLs, Delete a Workspace for all users • Creators of a Workspace are Admin by default • Only other Admins can remove another Admin’s user rights • Create - Add/create pages • Read (default) –Read-only view • Write – Create content on the pages; Can Clone workspaces to new workspaces, send Notifications to Workspace Members • Delete - Delete pages within the workspace • Sort - Sort pages in the Table of Contents • To add a member, you can use the Search function for all Vanderbilt and Meharrypersons or existing ROCKET users(external users). If the person you are looking for is not found, you have the option to Invite them to ROCKET to participate in your space.
Starting with a blank slate, members with create privileges can add multiple pages to their workspace. • On the pages, members with write privileges can add and organize: • headers • blocks of text • files • dividers • lists (bulleted, numbered and checklists) • Images • tables
Page Tools • Add or copy a page –Can add/copy page to/from existing workspace or another one of your workspaces • Revert to previous page version • Delete this page • Make a page private/Make a page public • Lock a page/ Unlock a page • Sharing Tools • Share Links • Export this page • Messaging Tools • Reminder (Schedule) • Send a Message (Immediate)
In your ROCKET workspaces there is a “Provide Feedback” and “Report a Bug” which will allow you to immediate let someone on the team know of any issues, questions, or suggestions you might have for the resource • Jacqueline Kirby at Jacqueline.Kirby@Vanderbilt.edu
