What is S-PAC? • Student Professional Awareness Conference • A Section PACE Project • Provides students, and IEEE leaders the opportunity to share experiences at one venue. • IEEE Student Branch is responsible for organizing the event. Students Must: • Arrange for speakers, room, refreshments, etc. • Create program topics • Contact local Section leadership to request participation • Advertise the event using IEEE vTools • Prepare necessary reimbursement expense voucher

  3. What is iSTEP? • Expansion of the Region 1 STEP Program • STEP – Student Transition & Elevation Program • Designed for College Seniors • iSTEP – Integrated Student Transition to Engineering/Technology Professional • Program designed for all college levels from Freshman to Senior

  4. iSTEP • Provides students, industry professionals and IEEE leaders the opportunity to share career experiences at one venue. • Students learn how IEEE can shape their future and provide career development tools to help them succeed. • From presentations & panel session by local industry & IEEE leaders students glean wisdom to help them navigate through the professional world.

Elements of iSTEP • Local college or university • Coordinate through Faculty Advisor & IEEE Student Branch • Welcome, refreshments & networking session – IEEE Section Coordinator • Section PACE Chair • Introduction & IEEE One Voice Video • Keynote Address – IEEE Leader • Region Director, Director-Elect, Area Chair, or Section Chair

Elements of iSTEP • Presentation of IEEE Organization, Membership Benefits, Young Professionals (GOLD) Program and Volunteering Opportunities • Membership Development or PACE Chair • Panel Session – “Mentoring for Professional Development” • Industry leaders from local Society Chapters • Concluding Remarks • Section PACE Chair

  7. iSTEP Events • New York Section sponsored iSTEP at Polytechnic Institute of NYU, Brooklyn, NY – September 19, 2013 • Coordinator – Bob Pellegrino, PACE Chair • North Jersey Section sponsored iSTEP at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ – October 15, 2013 • Coordinator – Russell Pepe, North Jersey Section Chair

  8. Feedback • Approximately 35 students attended each iSTEP event. • Both Students and Industry Leaders enjoyed the panel session experience. • Positive feedback received from students and faculty members attending. • Many students were encouraged to join IEEE.

S-PAC/iSTEP • Combination of S-PAC and iSTEP Programs by Sharing responsibilities between Section & Student Branch • Established by NY Section PACE Chair • Enables the local Section and Student Branch to work together to develop the student professional development program • Organization of event is responsibility of the local Section leadership – PACE Chair or Section Chair

Elements of S-PAC/iSTEP • Major elements of this program are the same as the iSTEP Program • Venue arrangements are similar to the S-PAC Program • Local Student Branch arranges for the room, welcome address by a faculty advisor, Dean or Assistant Dean of Engineering/Technology Dept and providing refreshments

Elements of S-PAC/iSTEP • Section PACE & Student Activities Chair organize the event using elements of iSTEP Program • Section leadership (PACE Chair) and Student Activities Chair arranges for speakers, presentations and Industry Panel Session • Section leadership coordinates with local Student Branch regarding date and time of event and venue logistics • Section prepares the event flyer and advertises via IEEE vTools • Section provides speaker gifts and promotional items for students

  12. S-PAC/iSTEP Events Held • City College of New York (CCNY) • Manhattan College • New Institute of Technology (NYIT) – Manhattan Campus • Long Island University – Brooklyn Campus • Fordham University – School of Computer Science
