  2. LIGHTWAVE 3D • Light wave 3D is a 3d design and rendering program created by NewTek it supports both Apple Mac and windows Pc’s. It combines two programs into one package the first being the modeler and the second being the layout, the layout is where the animation takes place and the Modeler is where the designs and model building is done. This is almost like 3ds max but for some reason Light wave advertise this as if it’s something new. • It has a some negative sides one being that the Mac version will be very unstable and won’t be very efficient.The animation isn’t too bad but the program Maya is a lot more better. • The rendering is the best part of this software it is very fast and it is less faulty then any other 3d software.

  3. Auto Desk 3ds studio max • 3ds max is the most popular program for 3d design it is also the dormant program for games development. It has a large amount of walkthroughs inside the program it’s self for beginners to learn some of the basics of the program just like Google sketch up. This program has the ability to create models and animate them but it is a lot more confusing then programs like Light Wave 3D. • Unlike Light Wave 3D, Auto Desk is the only major 3D product that has not bothered developing a Mac version since they believe that the Mac market wasn’t moving good enough for this program to shine on the Mac. • The reason 3Ds Max is more popular than any other 3d program is because of the large amount of 3rd party plug in available for this software. An example would be the ability to export directly to Flash. I may start using this myself mainly because of this reason

  4. Google sketch up • Google sketch up is a simple 3d modeling software which is free to download off the internet. It doesn’t have the ability to animate it’s models but I can’t complain, its free. The Designs always look cartoony in Google sketch up which is good if you need them for stuff like Flash but if your looking for a serious 3d animation this isn’t the software for you.

  5. Auto Desk Maya • Maya is the most groundbreaking application in 3D creation out there. It is used in almost every feature film and most TV series to create visual effects and animation.

  6. Cinema 4D • Cinema 4d is a 3d development program made by Maxon. It comes as a main program which also comes with a number of add-on modules, they don’t come as numerous as 3DS Max’s does but it’s one of the only other programs that supports 3rd party plug-in’s that I could find. It supports both Mac and Pc, but this is the only program which is stable on the Mac making this is a very good option for Mac only users. • It has a really good interface as it comes with pre set load outs as well as the ability to switch quickly between modeling, animation and painting layouts. • The only downfall is that it has the poorest rendering quality of all the 3d design software making Light Wave look advertising for those who need the quality to be really good.
