What is a point? • Tells you an exact location.
What is a line? • A straight path that goes without end in two directions. Click to go back to review question 4
What is a line segment? • Part of a line with two end points. • Examples: top of a door, side of a paper, pencil Click to go back to review question 5
What is a ray? • Part of a line that has one end point and goes in one direction without end. • Example: laser pointer- it starts at the pointer and continues on forever in one direction as long as there is nothing blocking it Click to go back to review question 2
What are parallel lines? • Two lines or line segments can either intersect (cross) each other or be parallel. • Think of the parallel lines as never meeting each other, no matter how much you would continue them to both directions. • Example: lines on a piece of paper Click to go back to review question 1
Parallel Lines These lines intersect. These lines are parallel.
Tip • If you are not sure the lines are parallel, continue drawing the lines with a ruler and see if they meet. These lines look parallel, but if you continue them they are not.
What are perpendicular lines? • Lines that intersect or cross to form a right angle (90 degree angle). • Example: sides that meet on a window Click to go back to review question 3
