Human Resources and Mobility in the 6th Framework Programme (FP6)

This program supports the training and mobility of researchers in Europe through various measures such as hosting researchers, promoting return and reintegration, supporting regional mobility schemes, and recognizing outstanding work through scientific prizes. It aims to promote excellence, career development, and international collaboration in research. The program is open to researchers from both EU member states and third countries.

  4. 6th Framework Programme 2002 - 2006 Structuring the ERA: Human Resources and Mobility (the “Marie-Curie Actions”) • Support for institutions hosting European and “third country” researchers. • Individual support measures for researchers searching mobility. • Mechanisms promoting return to regions / countries of origin and professional (re)integration. • Support of regional or national schemes promoting mobility of researchers from other European countries. • Support of outstanding European research teams working at the cutting edge of research. • Scientific prizes for outstanding work carried out by researchers who are beneficiaries of EU mobility grants.

  5. Training / transfer of knowledge / excellence promotion / career development Bottom-up approach (no thematic priorities) Trans-national mobility of participating researchers Promotion of female participation Open to 3rd country nationals Marie Curie Actions Human Resources and Mobility

  7. Work programmemain changes • New member states • Enhancing the participation of the private sector • New methods of submitting proposals (electronically and two stage submission) • New ways of evaluation (modifications, new thresholds and weighting criteria) • Simplifications and clarifications concerning actions

  8. Work programmeadditional changes • Limitation as it concerns number of proposals of the same applicants • Indication to upper limit for the budget • Social security for the stipends

  10. To develop the offer of structured research training; To stimulate the training and mobility of early stage researchers Application by hosts in: higher education, research centres, enterprises For early stage researchers(<4 years experience) Structured training in research(incl. complimentary skills) Single* or Multi-partner Group(min 3 groups in 3 countries) Hosts select fellows 3 months to 3 years Marie Curie Schemes Host Fellowships for Early Stage Research Training

  11. To stimulate early stage researchers through participation of conferences and courses Encourage researchers to benefit from the experience of leading researchers (priority to early stage) Variety of actions (including virtual ones) series of conferences, summer schools, training events etc. on a theme or linked themes No further calls for large conferences* Duration from several days to 4 week Marie Curie Schemes Marie Curie Conferences and Training Courses

  12. RTN Objectives • Initial training of early-stage researchers and transfer of knowledge for more experienced researchers • Overcoming institutional and disciplinary boundaries through the promotion of interdisciplinary/ intersectoral projects* • Help achieve a critical mass of qualified researchers, especially in highly-specialised and/or fragmented areas • Intensifying pan-European and international research collaborations, especially with associated countries

  13. RTN Main Features High Quality Collaborative Research-Training Projects (4 years) • Undertaken by international consortia ( 3 partners) • Across any area of S&T (not thematic) • Researchers from Europe and other countries (3 months to 3 years international mobility) As Vehicles for Research Training (initial training, transfer of knowledge, and acquisition of complementary research skills) * Flexibility on subject, size and budget

  16. To develop or reinforce research potential of institutes in need of new competencies Applications by institutions in need of developing new competencies All countries, with priority to Community LFRs/Associate Candidate Countries Host selects and recruits experienced researchers (2-24 months), non scientific staff can participate* Possibility to send own staff (2-12 months) to pre-determined institutions + return Marie Curie Schemes Development Scheme

  17. To create or develop true strategic and durable partnerships Application by Industry and academia partners from at least 2 different countries Coordinating host from industry or academia, with one or more partners from the other sector Funding of exchange of experienced researchers amongst staff members, in one* or both directions (2-24 months) including non scientific staff* Intersectorial mobility is allowed between participants of the same MS or AS up to 30% of the p/m in the project* Includes SMEs, spin-offs, start-ups Marie Curie Schemes Industry-Academia Strategic Partnership Scheme
