P.E.E.C. • POINT - state clearly the point you are making • EXPLAIN - explain the point in more detail relating it to the question • EXAMPLE - good answers will illustrate one or more of the points by giving examples • CONCEPT - make sure that at least once in every answer you refer to the concept involved

3. “ Choose either the First Past the post System or the Additional Member System.Explain the advantages or disadvantage of the system you have chosen.” (8 marks) • the question is worth 8 marks • you should be aiming at FOUR ‘P.E.E.s’ or three very good ones • the examiner will award ‘up to 3 Marks’ for a very well explained point • use certain ‘flag’ words to let the examiner know what you are doing at each stage for example... four

Using ‘flag’ words • (Point)“The first advantage of the First Past the Post System (F.P.T.P.) is that it usually leads to strong, single party government to represent (Concept) the voters. • (Explain) “This means that it is almost always the case that the government of the United Kingdom is made up of MPs from the same party and avoids coalitions. The party which becomes the government doesn’t have to rely on the support of other parties in Parliament to get it’s policies and laws voted through so the government will be able to run the country more effectively.”
