Raw material (Iron Ore) Availability in Karnataka • The reserves of iron ore in the state, are estimated at more than 9000 Million tons, the bulk of which is magnetite ore. • The Karnataka Mineral Policy 2008 emphasises priority to the applicants who propose establishment of industries for value addition. Infrastructure initiative by the State • “Special Industrial Zone for Steel” – in the districts viz. Bellay, Koppal, Raichur, Bagalkot & Haveri to be developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. • “Steel Hub of India” – a planned and integrated development of Steel Driven Industrial Urban Complex, in an area 580.70 sq. mtr. of land is being developed by VADA (Vijaynagara Area Development Authority) in Bellary District. Infrastructure initiative by the State • Rail connectivity and link to sea ports • Hubli – Ankola Railway line and Talaguppe – Honnavara Railway line area planned in Public Private Partnership • Minor ports in 8 different locations in the state are planned in PPP model. • Road Connectivity is improved. • More than 23 TMC of Water from Almatti Dam will be made available to industries, in particular the steel and power sector.
