What is Puente? • A program to increase the number of educationally underserved students • 9th and 10th grade college prep English courses • Intensive academic counseling all four years • Parent and community involvement.
Upward BoundJulie Mendez, Director Upward Bound – CNUSD 2001 Third StreetNorco, CA 92860 • Who qualifies? • Students must be either low income OR first generation • (meaning parents did not complete a 4-year college degree in the US.) • What services are provided? • Tutoring - Academic Advising -Local College & Cultural Fieldtrips • 1-week Northern California College Tour for Juniors during spring break • 6-week Summer program at Norco College. Student receive high school credit for one or two classes. • How can students apply? • Pick up an application today and return it by Tuesday, February 19th, 2013. • Return to room B5 in Corona High School or by mail. • Questions? REGISTRATION PROCESS • Course Selection Sheets • Teachers review Course Selection Sheets • Course Selection Sheets are sent home for parents to review and sign • Course Selection Sheets are collected by Teachers/Student Advisors • High School Counselors meet with all students to discuss their schedule

COURSE SELECTIONSHEETS • Students should follow the directions on the front page when filing out their course selection sheet. • Counselors will review the course selection sheets with every student. • Registration booklet and course descriptions can be found on our website.
FRESHMAN SCHEDULE • Language Arts • Math Course • Math placement is based on CST scores and district assessment • Biology or Natural Science • Health and Computers or Geography • Placement in additional coursework is based on CST scores and district assessment • Physical Education • One Elective
FRESHMAN SCHEDULE • Students are scheduled in a college preparatory curriculum. • It is recommended that any student requesting to take honors classes have a 3.5 GPA and must turn in the signed honors contract. • Special Education students’ placement is determined by their Individualized Educational Program (IEP). • English Language Learners are placed according to their CELDT test scores. • Students interested in AVID, Puente or Upward Bound must interview; representatives will be available after the presentation.
SCHEDULING PROCESS • Counselors meet yearly with students to determine the most appropriate schedule for each student • Discuss their progress toward graduation and college • Discuss future goals • All of February and March are devoted to meeting individually with every CHS students to review their schedule for the following year
