Robert Schifreen UK based computer hacker He was arrested in 1985 for hacking into a British Telecom computer and accessing the Telecom Gold emails of Prince Philip. Although first convicted he was acquitted on appeal, because contemporary law was inadequate to cover computer hacking. As there was no specific law against hacking at this time, he had been charged with forgery instead. This led to the introduction of the Computer Misuse Act 1990
