Elisha heals Naaman • Naaman was a great man in Syria • Commander of the Syrian army • A mighty man of valor • But, also a leper • A slowly progressive, chronic infectious disease … that damages nerves, skin, and mucous membranes, and can lead to loss of sensation, paralysis, gangrene, and deformity if untreated.
Elisha heals Naaman • A young Israelite maiden • Captured on a raid • Servant to Naaman’s wife • Told of a prophet in Israel who could heal Naaman • Naaman told the Syrian king about this • The king sends Naaman to the king of Israel with gift requesting healing
Elisha heals Naaman • “Now be advised, when this letter comes to you, that I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy” • The king of Israel (unnamed) responds • "Am I God, to kill and make alive, that this man sends a man to me to heal him of his leprosy? Therefore please consider, and see how he seeks a quarrel with me."
Elisha heals Naaman • Elisha hears of this and responds • “let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.” • Naaman comes to Elisha’s house • Elisha did not come out • He sends a messenger to Naaman
Elisha heals Naaman • "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean.” • Naaman was furious • "Indeed, I said to myself…” • “I thought” this is how I would be healed • He heads home to the rivers of Damascus • They are “better than all the waters of Israel”
Elisha heals Naaman • "My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean'?“ • So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

Sin of Gehazi • Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, wanted some of the gifts offered to Elisha by Naaman • He pursues Naaman • Naaman gladly offers Gehazi gifts • Even sends men to help carry the gifts • Elisha confronted Gehazi • Gehazi lied about where he had been • Naaman’s leprosy was put on Gehazi
Floating Ax Head • Outgrown living quarters • They went to the Jordan to cut trees • An iron ax head fell into the water • It was borrowed • Elisha threw a stick into the water • The ax head floated and was retrieved
War with Syria • Continuous raids • Neither king is named • Elisha would tell the king of Israel the plans of the king of Syria • He proved to always be right • The king of Syria thought there was a traitor or spy among his servants

Elisha and the Syrians • Elisha’s servant saw the great army • “those who are with us are more than those who are with them” • “open his eyes that he may see” • The mountains were full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha • The army approaches • Elisha prays that they be blinded
Elisha and the Syrians • Elisha lead them to Samaria • Capital of Israel !!! • Their eyes were opened • The king of Israel would have killed them • They were the enemy of Israel • Elisha said to feed them and send them home • Syria did not attack Israel for a long time
