Perforated metal is ideal for many different applications including screens, partitions, and guards Everyone involved in building design, renovations or actual construction knows that there is an ever growing range of new materials and fabrication techniques available to meet the specific design challenge each project faces. And that innovation doesn't exclude the use of sheetmetal or the use of CNC equipment such as a turret punch. Traditionally used for making bracketry or large production runs of components that require fixing holes, we use our turret punch to create custom made screening with either geometric patterns or more expressive artistic designs. A customized art piece styled panel doesn't have to cost significantly more, but can be visually stunning and transform a "problem" area into a feature. Common perforated metal questions • • • • What perforated metal patterns can I use? Where can I see examples of your perforated metal designs How much does it cost? Do you supply in house design services or do I have to provide the design? What material types and sizes can be perforated? Recently we successfully tested punching composite panel with great success and expect to see a dramatic increase in perforated composite panelling such as Alucubond or Symonite used in commercial and domestic facades. Perforated panels and screens can be manufactured in a variety of metals and thicknesses. Our preference is to create cassette panels that can be bolted, screwed or welded together without requiring heavy framing for support. We punch sheets 1280mm wide by up to 6000mm long in thicknesses of .55mm through to 6mm. The size of the sheet that can be turret punched is determined by the hole size and material thickness and type. We work with our customers to deliver perforated
products that best meet the desired outcome as cost effectively as possible. From our experience, when it comes to screens and facades or even pergola panels aluminium is the most commonly used material. The advantages of perforated aluminium Aluminium as a material of choice has three distinct advantages over other screens. • It is durable in the Australian climate, including by the beach. It can be powder coated or anodised, with powder coating the simplest and most cost effective option. It is easy to install. Because aluminium is light it is easier to install than steel and requires less structural support and labour – reducing the cost. Aluminium is easy to fabricate. Punching, cutting, folding and welding are all easy processes with aluminium. Again, because it is light it requires less labour to fabricate in large panels than steel. • • Additionally, aluminium is competitively priced compared to other building materials. What else can be made with perforated metal? Customised furniture such as bench seats and tables is also growing in popularity, particularly with powder coated aluminium which is light, durable in the weather and is all made to meet your specific requirements in both size and patterns.
