Objectives • AT THE END OF THIS SESSION, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ABLE TO: • Describe the purpose and uses of orientation seminars • Develop and conduct an orientation seminar for the EOC Management and Policy Group of Central City/ Liberty County Joint EOC based on the Central City Vulnerability Assessment
ORIENTATION SEMINARS • GOOD FOR: • Reviewing roles and responsibilities • Introducing new policies or programs • Building the base for other exercises • Motivating people for participation in subsequent exercises
ORIENTATION SEMINARS • Key word is “Orient” • Emphasis is on “Showing the way” • Typically provides a sequence of steps or directions • Allow discussions and/or questions at each discrete step or level • Permit clarification at every stage in a process or procedure • May challenge participants to make decisions about their actions
ORIENTATION SEMINARS • Location • Conference or a classroom • Time • 1 ~ 4 Hours • Seminar format • Informal, low stress • Lectures, discussions, panel discussions, slide presentations, etc • Conduct • Facilitator presented
ORIENTATION ACTIVITY • PREPARE AN ORIENTATION FOR THE CENTRAL CITY/ LIBERTY COUNTY EOC MANAGEMENT AND POLICY GROUP • It should be approximately 20 minutes in length • It is for newly appointed members • Potential topics are: • Hazard Analysis for Hazardous Materials • Liberty County/ Central City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Structure

ORIENTATION ACTIVITY • 1. You will develop the seminar in your assigned work area. • 2. Seminars will be conducted as follows: • Group 1 and 6 in Room 123 (Policy) • Group 2 and 4 in Room 125 (Large Classroom) • Group 3 and 5 in Room 122 (Coordination)
ORIENTATION ACTIVITY TIME TARGETS • Start setup for first orientation by 1600 (4 PM) • Finish setup by 1610 (4:10 PM) • End First orientation by 1630 (4:30 PM) • Finish setup for second orientation by 1635 (4:35 PM) • End orientation by 1655 (4:55 PM) • Report back to the main classroom
