  1. Resourcing Mission ForumHayes Conference CentreSwanwick, Derbyshire WORLD CHURCH GRANTS Presented by: John Nutt (Mission Education Co-ordinator)

  2. Fund for World Mission • Currently supports: • General grants to partner churches • Special project grants to PCs • Mission Partners • Experience Exchange Programme • Scholarship & Leadership Training SALT • Nationals in Mission Appointments NMAs • World Church work in Britain

  3. World Church Grants • From September 2008: • Outcomes from Team Focus Project 12 • ‘Grant making – all in one place’ • An integrated grant-making process

  4. World Church Grants • % Levy allowed to be charged • For admin costs – may be greater than 5% as originally proposed? • Remaining % will be spent in its entirety for work overseas

  5. World Church Grants • How will these areas be interpreted? • Scholarship programme (SALT) – much of this training is now ‘south to south’ but partner churches do want some training to take place here eg PHDs and Masters Degrees • Mission Partner training at SOCMS – currently funded via FWM

  6. World Church Grants • Some ‘grey areas’? • Work with ethnic minority churches in this country – provision of chaplains etc • Who will initiate this work? • If the response is from Britain should the funding come from FWM? • If requested by a partner church eg Ghana, Korea, Zimbabwe etc can it come from FWM as now (£130k spent on both categories in 07/08 from FWM)

  7. World Church Grants • FWM grants from September 2008 • More information from further slide-show • World Church Relationships staff to present grants below £30k, prior to being reported to ‘streams’ for authorization

  8. World Church Grants • Expected but not agreed yet that WCR staff can allocate grants up to £20K and then reported to ‘streams’ as at present • Other ‘streams’ can be added as and when needed to the structure eg FIWM (administered via SOCMS) • Grants Officer proposed for CCEA cluster in reconfigured team – job description pending.

  9. World Church Grants • Important to note that WCR has been working with proper controls and scrutiny from outside eg World Church Committee and World Church Action Group in the past • New arrangements are a welcome development

  10. World Church Grants • New committees (see following slide show) are not yet complete – advertising underway • The future – will World Mission Forum (replaced WCC) and World Mission Group (replaced WCAG) continue? • A ‘work in progress’!
