  1. Acubody Therapists Now Provide Myofascial Release In London Massage therapists at Acubody Therapies are now providing myofascial release in London to clients who require it. Myofascial release is an umbrella term which covers a number of treatments, but it is commonly used in orthopaedic conditions and is a graded stretch of the soft tissues by the therapist which is guided entirely by the feedback from the patient's body to determine the direction of stress, force, and duration to treat specific tissue problems. In this form it is referred to as passive myofascial release because it uses minimal pressure and the patient remains passive. Another form of myofascial release is trigger point therapy which is an active form because the patient uses muscle contractions to help relax. Trigger point therapy treats a pain which is caused by a muscle in another part of the body and is sometimes called a referred pain. The fascia is a connective tissue of three layers which are the superficial layer, then a layer of potential space, and then a deep layer. The fibres of fascia run in multiple directions and because of this the fascia can move and change in relation to the surrounding tissues. It is thought to be one continuous piece of tissue working in connected chains and so when one part of the fascia is stretched it can cause a part in another area of the body to become taut also, thereby causing pain there. In a sense, it is like pulling cling film across the top of a bowl since when one side is pulled tight the other side gets tighter as well. This means that myofascial pain can be hard to diagnose, but once found, it can be treated with myofascial release. Acubody therapists also provide other types of massage therapies such as sports massage. This is a deep form of massage which is based on Swedish massage and

  2. has proven benefits for those taking part in active sport. It is designed to relieve the tensions and stress which build up in the body during strenuous exercise and it can also help to break down minor injuries and lesions that can occur. Used prior to taking part in competition it can also help to tone the muscles and improve blood flow, which can help to lead to better performance. There are two other areas in which a sports massage can help athletes and professional sports people, in addition. One is regular maintenance with the therapist working on specific sets of muscles which the athlete uses regularly and which are more prone to suffer injury. The therapist can work on those muscle groups to improve flexibility and range of motion. It is recommended that sports people should have a massage at least once a month. The other area is pre-event massage which can be used as a supplement to the athlete's warm-up and can help to tone the muscles and improve circulation. It also helps to reduce stress, which can go a long way towards improvements in performance.
