Classical History (Greece and Rome) 750 B.C. – 476 A.D. • Rise in art, architecture, education, science, inventions, philosophy, etc. • Large unified empires with single leaders. • Wealth • Massive organized and trained armies • Trade – connecting the world.
Middle Ages 476 A.D. – 1453 A.D. • Loss of literacy and science • No large empires. • Large gap between rich and poor. • Christian church has the power in Europe. • IN MIDDLE EAST: Islam begins and grows (622) • **Clash between two monotheistic religions**
RENAISSANCE: 1453-1700 • Europeans “look back” to the Classical period. • Rise of science, invention, art, architecture, cities. • Countries become unified empires under a king. • Wealth.
Enlightenment and Industrialization: 1700-1900 • Industrial revolution = inventions and new products. • Rise of factories and urban centers. • People want independence from kings! • Europe seeks to control the world.
Modern History: 1900-2011 • Two World Wars. • Globalization and technology.
Timeline Assignment • Create a timeline that starts at 3000 B.C. and ends at 2011. • Space out markers every 250 years.
