  1. Park History • In 2000, the City of Cedar Rapids Parks Department brought together a group of citizens interested in off leash areas. • K9COLA was founded.

  2. Park History • K9COLA worked with the city to plan an OLA. • K9COLA raised 50% of original cost of park. • Members of K9COLA also provided a tremendous amount of ‘sweat equity’. • Cheyenne Park OLA opened on 11/17/2001.

  3. K9COLA Role K9COLA, a non-profit organization, continues to play a role in supporting the Cheyenne Park OLA. • Educates the public about safe and effective park use. • Continues raising funds and providing manpower, to make park improvements. • Works directly with the Parks Department.

  4. K9COLA Role • Provides volunteers to empty garbage. • Sponsors the OL-CGC tests at park. • Provides a newsletter for park users. • Keeps looking for ways to make the park better!

  5. Benefits of an OLA • Socializes and exercises dogs in a safe environment. • Promotes responsible pet ownership. • Provides a recreational opportunity for the 36.5% of households owning dogs in Cedar Rapids.

  6. Benefits of an OLA • Lets dogs run off-leash legally. • Promotes public health and safety through better socialized dogs. • Exposes dog owners to many training and activity options.

  16. What Can YOU do? Become a user • Annual $25 permit for each dog (discounts available) • Fill out a form and show proof of vaccinations • Ambroz Recreation Center on Mt. Vernon Road SE: open 7:30 to 5:30 weekdays

  17. What Can YOU do? Become a K9COLA member • Annual membership fee • $15 single • $25 family • Participate on board, committees • Help with workdays and other events
