1. Facing the Impossible Keys to overcome situations that seem impossible
Matthew 15:29-38
2. I. The Challenge to face the impossible (v.32 – 33) The disciples said to Him, “Where would we get so many loaves in a desolate place to satisfy such a great multitude?” v.33
Jesus challenged His disciples to face that which was beyond their ability to accomplish.
Jesus still brings people face to face with what seems to be impossible.
Jesus brings churches face to face with what seems to be impossible.
3. I. The Challenge to face the impossible (v.32 – 33) We come face to face with what seems to be impossible to us knowing that we do not have the ability nor the resources to make it happen ourselves.
4. II. Challenge to give what we have (v. 33-34) Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” (v. 34)
Moses’ Staff (Exodus 4:1-4) – “…what is that in your hand?” (v.2)
Widow’s Oil (II Kings 4:1-7) – “.. What do you have in your house?” (v.2)
5. II. Challenge to give what we have (v. 33-34) In facing the impossible, He challenges us to give all that we have knowing that what we have is not enough to meet the need.
6. III. The touch of Jesus(v. 35-38) He directed the multitude to sit down on the ground
He took the seven loaves and the fish; and gave thanks
He broke the bread and gave it to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitude
They all ate and were satisfied
They picked up seven large baskets full of leftovers
7. III. The touch of Jesus(v. 35-38) Jesus takes the ordinary of our lives and turns it into the extra-ordinary of His grace.
It is the touch of Jesus that makes the difference.
8. IV. Concluding Questions What would have happened if Jesus had done what the disciples asked Him to do in sending away the multitude?
How many times do we short-change ourselves in failing to do what Jesus asks?
Are you willing to give what you have knowing it is not enough, but expecting Jesus, the miracle worker, to touch your situation with His grace and power?
