Example Cut and Fill EXCAVATION (CUT) EMBANKMENT (FILL)
Earthwork 0+00 The horizontal dimensions of a project are dimensioned in stations. One station equals 25m. 25m. 0+25
Calculation Formular • Area: rectangular(AxB), triangular • Simpson’s Volume • V=(At+Ab+ AtxAb)x h/3 • Prismoidal formular • V=Aav. x h • Aav.=(Ab+4Am+At)/6 A B H
Example Cut and Fill Calculate the weight of the solid particles which make up the embankment (fill). Project specifications require the embankment be compacted to a dry unit weight (d) of 1.6 T/m3 net section, embankment is 30,000 m3
Example Cut and Fill Weight of the solid particles which make up the embankment (fill). a dry unit weight (d) of 1.6 T/m3 30,000 m3 embankment Volume = 30,000 m3 x1.6 T/m3 It is not easy like this.
Example Cut and Fill As material is moved from the excavation to the compacted fill the only factor that is constant is the weight of the solid particles (d).
Swell and Shrinkage • What are Swell and Shrinkage? • Formular • Load factor(ค่าการบวมตัว) = kg/m3(after dig) kg/m3(before dig) or VL = Sw x Vb VL = Loose volume Vb = Bank volume Sw = Swell factor = 1+(%swell/100) %swell = (1/load factor-1) x 100 Vc = Sk x Vb %Shrinkage = (1-Vc/Vb) x 100
Example • Filling back with sand at a bridge. • From cross section, filled volume = 10,000 m3. • %Shrinkage and % Swell are same as 12 %. • Empty Truck weight = 10 T. • Truck capacity = 16 m3 • As Highway Authority, total weight of truck is not more than 21 T. • Find Volume after and before excavation • How many trip by Highway A. , Truck capacity
Solution • 1. Sk = 1-(%shrinkage/100)= 1-12/100 = 0.88 Sw = 1+(%Swell/100) = 1+12/100 = 1.12 Vb = Vc/Sk =10,000/0.88 = 11,363.6 m3 Vb = VL/Sw : VL= Vb x Sw =11,363.6 x 1.12 = 12,727.3 m3 • From tableDensity of loose sand = 1,691 kg/m3 Carried weight = 21-10 = 11 T. Volume as Laws/trip = 11(1,000)/1,691 = 6.5 m3/trip Number of trips= 12,727.3/6.5 = 1,958 trips
Number of trips by capacity of truck = 12,727.3/16 =796 trips Ex…Previous examination (details in class)
