Adjusting to the Vision Distrust became a “Mental Challenge” • Strongholds are habitual mental challenges that consistently opposes Kingdom thought patterns. • Mental Challenges emerge as Defense Mechanisms
Adjusting to the Vision Israel’s mental challenge was “dis-Trust” Their defense mechanism was “Cognitive Distortion”: Thoughts that cause individuals to perceive reality inaccurately They did not trust what God was doing in their life
Adjusting to the Vision • The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Cor. 10:5 - NIV).
Adjusting to the Vision • Strongholds are defended by arguments and pretensions—acceptable lies There are two operative words: • Arguments. Gr. logismos: ‘thoughts’. Not a petty squabble when people are arguing with each other; but rather powerful reasoning • Pretension. Gr. hupsoma: ‘height’. This refers to pompous reasoning or haughty reasoning
